Wash-Water Consumption
A low and predictable operating input
Wash-water consumption is the volume of water used to keep the screen clean. On a screw press it is low because the screen is mechanically self-cleaning and washing is intermittent.
A structural advantage
Because the ring screen cleans itself mechanically, the screw press needs only short, timed wash cycles rather than the continuous high-pressure spraying of a belt press. Consumption is therefore a fraction of comparable technologies, and plant service water or clarified effluent can often be used instead of potable water. Wash water and filtrate together return to the plant inlet, so the net water balance is modest.
