Sludge Thickening
Increase sludge concentration for efficient downstream processing
Thickening as Part of the Process
Sludge thickening increases the dry solids concentration of dilute sludge — typically from 0.2–1% to 3–6% DS. This reduces downstream volume for more efficient digestion, dewatering, or direct disposal.
Multi-disc screw presses combine thickening and dewatering in a single unit. The gravity thickening zone at the inlet progressively concentrates the sludge before the pressure dewatering zone produces the final cake.
Benefits
- No separate thickener required — combined in one machine
- Handles feed as low as 0.2% DS
- Reduces digester volume requirements when used for pre-thickening
- Suitable for WAS, chemical, and biological sludge
