Screw Speed
The residence-time control, as a sizing factor
Screw speed sets residence time and therefore both throughput and cake dryness. In sizing it defines the operating window between maximum throughput and maximum cake solids.
The operating window
A variable-speed drive lets the same machine run fast for maximum throughput or slow for maximum cake dryness. In sizing, this range means one model can cover a band of duties rather than a single point, and gives headroom to trade throughput for dryness when needed. Many systems modulate screw speed automatically from the flocculation-tank level to match feed while holding cake quality.
