Cake Solids
The key output result of dewatering
Cake solids (% DS) is the dry-solids content of the dewatered cake — the headline performance result. Higher cake solids means less water hauled away and lower disposal cost.
What determines cake solids
Achievable cake solids depend on the sludge type, conditioning, residence time and compression. Fibrous and primary sludges dewater to higher cake solids than light biological sludge. On the machine, lower screw speed and higher back pressure raise cake solids up to the sludge’s practical limit. Because disposal is charged by weight, each extra point of cake solids removes water and directly cuts haulage cost.
