Drainage gaps blocked, filtrate falling
When the ring screen blinds, water can no longer drain freely, cake solids fall and wash-water demand rises. Although the ring action is self-cleaning, greasy, scaling or very fine solids can still gradually block the gaps.

Causes and corrective actions

| Wash cycle too infrequent | Increase wash frequency for the sludge type. |
| Grease or oil coating the rings | Deep clean with a suitable degreasing agent. |
| Mineral scaling | Descale with a mild acid suited to the deposit. |
| Wash nozzles blocked | Clean or replace nozzles; check wash-water quality. |
