High Filtrate Solids (TSS)

The filtrate is visibly cloudy and its suspended-solids concentration is high, which means solids are escaping the press instead of being captured in the cake. This lowers solids-capture rate and returns load to the plant.

Causes and corrective actions
| Possible cause | Corrective action |

| Polymer under-dosed | Increase dose until flocs form and filtrate clears. |
| Poor mixing of polymer and sludge | Improve injection point and flocculation mixing. |
| Back pressure too high, extruding fines | Reduce back pressure slightly. |
| Damaged or worn screen rings | Inspect and replace worn rings or spacers. |
| Hydraulic overload | Reduce feed rate to within rated capacity. |
