Sludge Thickening and Dewatering

Combined thickening and dewatering in one machine

Two Processes, One Machine

Traditional sludge treatment often requires a separate thickener (gravity, rotary drum, or belt) before mechanical dewatering. This increases equipment cost, footprint, and operational complexity. A multi-disc screw press combines both functions: the initial section of the press acts as a gravity thickener, while the downstream section provides mechanical dewatering through increasing screw pressure. This allows direct processing of thin sludges from approximately 0.2% dry solids upward.

Benefits of Combined Operation

No Separate Thickener Needed

Eliminates gravity thickeners, belt thickeners, or rotary drum thickeners from the process chain.

Reduced Footprint

A single compact unit replaces what traditionally requires two separate machines.

Lower Capital Cost

One machine, one control system, one set of ancillary equipment.

Simplified Operation

Fewer process steps mean simpler operation and reduced failure modes.
