Multi-Disc Screw Press
Self-cleaning ring disc technology for reliable sludge dewatering
What Is a Multi-Disc Screw Press?
A multi-disc screw press is a specialized type of screw dewatering press that uses a dewatering drum composed of alternating fixed and moving ring discs instead of a conventional screen basket.
The moving rings are continuously shifted by the screw rotation, creating a self-cleaning action that keeps the filtration gaps clear. This design is particularly effective for sludges that tend to clog conventional screens — including oily, greasy, or fibrous sludges.
Advantages of Multi-Disc Design
- Self-cleaning — no filter cloth, no screen basket replacement needed
- Handles oily, greasy, and fibrous sludges without clogging
- Combined thickening and dewatering in one unit
- Very low energy consumption — typically under 0.1 kWh/m³
- Low noise operation — no high-speed rotating elements
- Accepts feed concentrations from approximately 0.2% DS upward
- Minimal operator attention required — 24/7 unattended operation possible
