Flocculation Tank
Where sludge and polymer combine to form dewaterable flocs
Conditioning Before Dewatering
The flocculation tank (or reaction tank) is mounted directly ahead of the screw press. Here, dilute sludge is gently mixed with dissolved polymer, causing fine particles to agglomerate into larger, easily dewaterable flocs.
Gentle, controlled mixing is critical: too little and the flocs never form; too much shear and the flocs break apart. A slow-turning paddle and correct residence time produce robust flocs that release water readily in the press.
Design Considerations
- Slow-speed paddle mixer to avoid floc shear
- Residence time sized for complete floc formation
- Integrated with polymer dosing for consistent conditioning
