Back-Pressure Plate
Adjustable resistance that controls final cake dryness
Controlling Cake Dryness
The back-pressure plate sits at the discharge end of the screw press and restricts the outlet opening. By adjusting the force on this plate, the operator controls how much resistance the cake must overcome to leave the machine.
Higher back-pressure increases residence time and compression, producing a drier cake — but too much pressure reduces throughput and can overload the drive. Correct adjustment balances cake dryness against capacity.
Function
- Adjustable — pneumatic, hydraulic, or spring-loaded
- Higher pressure = drier cake, lower throughput
- Key tuning parameter during commissioning
