Solids Capture Rate
The fraction of solids retained in the cake
Solids capture rate (%) is the proportion of incoming dry solids that ends up in the cake rather than escaping in the filtrate. A high capture rate means efficient dewatering and a clean return stream.
Why capture rate matters
Solids that escape in the filtrate return to the plant, increasing the recycled load and reducing net dewatering. Well-conditioned sludge on a correctly loaded screw press typically achieves a high capture rate. The main levers are polymer dose, flocculation quality, hydraulic loading and screen integrity — the same factors that keep filtrate clear. Capture rate is therefore best monitored through filtrate suspended solids.
Keeping capture high
- Maintain correct polymer dose and strong flocs.
- Stay within rated hydraulic and solids loading.
- Keep the screen clean and undamaged.
