Sludge Dewatering Capacity
Matching machine capacity to plant sludge production
Dewatering capacity must cover the plant’s daily sludge production within the available operating hours, with margin for peaks and maintenance. Under-sizing forces long shifts; over-sizing wastes capital.
From daily production to hourly capacity
Start from the total dry solids produced per day, then divide by the hours the press will run to get the required hourly capacity. A press running one shift needs far more capacity than the same load spread over 24 hours. Building in margin lets the system absorb peaks, catch up after downtime and run at an efficient point rather than flat out.
Capacity sizing steps
- 1Total daily DS production (kg DS/d)
- 2Planned operating hours per day
- 3Required hourly load = DS/d ÷ hours
- 4Add margin for peaks and maintenance
