Sizing
Screw Press Capacity
What a screw press can process, and how it is rated
Screw press capacity is expressed both as a hydraulic throughput (m³/h of sludge) and as a solids throughput (kg DS/h). The governing limit depends on feed concentration, so correct sizing checks both.
Two capacity limits
Every screw press has a hydraulic limit — the volume of sludge it can drain per hour — and a solids limit — the mass of dry solids it can dewater per hour. Dilute sludge is usually limited by hydraulics; thick sludge is usually limited by solids. Correct sizing calculates both and selects the model that satisfies the more demanding of the two, with margin for peaks.
What sets the capacity
- Screen area and drum diameter of the model.
- Feed dry-solids concentration.
- Sludge type and dewaterability.
- Polymer conditioning quality.
