Polymer Consumption
From dose to annual chemical demand and cost
Polymer consumption converts the dose (kg/t DS) into a daily or annual quantity, using the mass of dry solids processed. It is a major part of dewatering operating cost.
Estimating consumption
Multiply the polymer dose (kg/t DS) by the tonnes of dry solids processed per day to get daily active-polymer demand, then scale to a year. Because the screw press achieves good results at moderate doses and returns clear filtrate, its polymer consumption is generally competitive. Reducing consumption further comes from optimised dosing, good mixing and stable feed rather than simply cutting the dose, which would sacrifice capture.
Levers on consumption
- Optimised, flow-paced dosing.
- Good polymer make-up and maturation.
- Stable feed rate and concentration.
- Correct polymer selection for the sludge.
