Sizing
kg DS per Hour
The working unit of dewatering capacity
Kilograms of dry solids per hour (kg DS/h) is the standard unit for stating screw press throughput. Understanding it makes it easy to compare machines, sludges and operating scenarios on a common basis.
Converting to kg DS/h
To convert a volumetric sludge flow into a solids load, multiply the flow by the dry-solids fraction and the density. For dilute sludge the shortcut kg DS/h = flow (m³/h) × %DS × 10 is accurate enough for sizing. Stating everything in kg DS/h lets you compare a thin municipal sludge and a thick industrial sludge directly, because it removes the effect of water volume.
Quick conversions
| Flow | Feed DS | DS load |
|---|---|---|
| 5 m³/h | 1.0% | 50 kg DS/h |
| 10 m³/h | 2.0% | 200 kg DS/h |
| 20 m³/h | 1.5% | 300 kg DS/h |
