Why the screw press is a low-energy machine
Energy consumption is the electrical power the dewatering system draws, usually expressed in kWh per tonne of dry solids. The screw press is among the lowest-energy dewatering technologies because it turns slowly.
Slow rotation, low power
The screw turns at only a few revolutions per minute, so the drive draws little power and there are no high-speed components. Compared with a centrifuge, which spins at high speed and consumes far more energy per tonne, the screw press uses a small fraction of the power. Total energy also includes the feed and polymer pumps and the wash system, but these are modest. This low, steady demand is a key part of the machine’s low operating cost.
