Dry Solids Loading
The fundamental parameter for screw press capacity selection
What Is Dry Solids Loading?
Dry solids loading (DS load) is the mass of dry solids that a dewatering machine must process per unit time — typically expressed in kg DS/h (kilograms of dry solids per hour).
It is the single most important parameter for screw press sizing because it directly determines the required machine capacity. A screw press is selected to handle the design DS load with appropriate safety margins.
DS Load = Sludge Flow (m³/h) × Dry Solids Concentration (%) × 10
Example Calculations
| Scenario | Flow | Feed DS | DS Load | Suggested Model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small WWTP | 3 m³/h | 1.0% | 30 kg DS/h | RF-301 |
| Medium WWTP | 12 m³/h | 1.0% | 120 kg DS/h | RF-352 |
| Food industry DAF | 4 m³/h | 5.0% | 200 kg DS/h | RF-352 / RF-351 |
| Large municipal | 40 m³/h | 1.0% | 400 kg DS/h | RF-404 |
