Screw Press Shutdown Procedure
Stopping cleanly so the machine restarts trouble-free
A clean shutdown clears sludge from the machine and leaves the screen washed, preventing solids from drying inside the unit and causing a blinded screen or high starting torque at the next start.
Shutdown sequence
- 1Stop the sludge feed
Stop the feed pump but keep the screw turning to clear sludge already inside.
- 2Stop polymer dosing
Once no more sludge is arriving, stop the polymer to avoid waste.
- 3Run the machine empty
Let the screw run until the remaining cake has discharged.
- 4Run a full wash cycle
Wash the screen thoroughly to remove residual solids from the rings.
- 5Stop screw and wash-water
Stop the screw, then the wash-water, and leave the unit ready for restart.
For extended shutdowns
- Flush polymer lines with clean water to prevent gelling and blockage.
- Consider protecting the machine against freezing where applicable.
- Record run hours and note any observations for the next start.
