Screw Press Design
How screw press geometry and zones are engineered
Design Fundamentals
Screw press design balances three zones: an intake/thickening zone that drains free water by gravity, a transition zone, and a pressure zone that squeezes out bound water. The screw geometry — diameter progression and pitch reduction — sets the compression profile, while the ring stack defines the filtration area and gap.
Correct design matches these parameters to the target sludge so the machine reaches the required cake dryness at the design throughput without overloading the drive.
Core Design Parameters
- Screw diameter progression and pitch reduction
- Filtration gap sized to sludge particle size
- Thickening-to-pressure zone length ratio
- Screw speed range and drive torque
