Hydraulic Design
Sizing feed, drainage, and return hydraulics
Hydraulics of the System
Hydraulic design ensures sludge, polymer solution, and filtrate move reliably through the system at the right rates. It covers feed pump selection, pipe and valve sizing, and the gravity drainage of filtrate back to the plant.
Low-shear feed pumps such as progressive cavity pumps are preferred to avoid breaking up flocs. Filtrate lines are sized generously to drain freely without backing up into the machine.
Considerations
- Low-shear feed pump to protect flocs
- Generously sized filtrate drainage
- Gravity return to the plant head where possible
