Flocculation Design
Engineering the flocculation stage for strong flocs
Designing for Good Flocs
Flocculation design determines whether robust, dewaterable flocs actually form before the sludge reaches the press. The key variables are reaction tank volume (residence time), mixing energy, and protection of the formed flocs from excessive shear downstream.
Too little mixing energy leaves polymer poorly distributed; too much shears the flocs apart. The design targets a "gentle but complete" mixing regime.
Design Variables
- Reaction tank volume and residence time
- Mixing energy (gentle, controlled)
- Short, low-shear path to the press
