Filtrate Handling
Managing the water returned from dewatering
Returning the Filtrate
The water removed during dewatering (filtrate) must be returned to the treatment process. Because it can carry residual solids, nutrients, and polymer, its volume and quality affect the plant it returns to.
Good filtrate handling routes the flow back to an appropriate point (often the plant inlet), controls the return rate to avoid shock loads, and monitors filtrate TSS as a performance indicator.
Key Points
- Return to an appropriate treatment stage
- Control return rate to avoid shock loads
- Monitor filtrate TSS for solids capture
