Screw press dewatering of steel mill and metallurgical wastewater sludge
Dewatering Steel Mill Sludge
Steelmaking and rolling generate mill-scale, grinding and treatment sludges heavy with iron oxides and fine mineral solids. These dense, abrasive sludges dewater to a very high cake solids in a screw press, recovering material and cutting disposal volume.
Heavy-duty, wear-protected components handle the abrasive load, and the low-speed screw minimises wear compared with high-speed centrifuges on the same duty.
Typical Sludge & Process Parameters
| Parameter | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Sludge type | Mineral / mill-scale |
| Feed concentration | 2–8% DS |
| Cake solids | 30–50% DS |
| Key challenge | Highly abrasive solids |
