Screw press dewatering of dairy and creamery wastewater sludge
Dewatering Dairy Sludge
Dairy and creamery effluent is rich in fats, proteins and lactose, producing a soft biological and DAF sludge that is difficult to dewater on belt presses. The enclosed screw press handles this greasy, sticky sludge without blinding, thanks to its self-cleaning moving and fixed rings.
Continuous operation matches the steady effluent flow of a dairy, and the fully enclosed body contains odour — an important factor in food-industry plants.
Typical Sludge & Process Parameters
| Parameter | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Sludge type | DAF + biological (WAS) |
| Feed concentration | 1–5% DS |
| Cake solids | 14–22% DS |
| Key challenge | High fat/grease content |
