Polymer Conditioning for DAF Sludge
Polymer selection and dosing for dewatering DAF float sludge
Conditioning DAF Float
DAF float dewaters well only when properly conditioned. Because the float is greasy and finely dispersed, it usually needs a medium-to-high charge cationic polymer, dosed generously and mixed gently to build strong, drainable flocs without shearing them apart.
Correct make-up concentration, ageing time and injection point matter as much as the dose. On a screw press the flocculation reaction can be completed in an integrated flocculation tank immediately ahead of the thickening zone for reliable, repeatable results.
Typical Sludge & Process Parameters
| Parameter | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Polymer type | Cationic, medium–high charge |
| Typical dose | 6–18 kg/t DS |
| Make-up concentration | 0.1–0.5% |
| Mixing | Gentle, avoid floc shear |
